The Grand Trunk road is one of Asia’s oldest and longest major roads ie why known as the National highway. We all know this for more than two millenia , it has linked the Indian subcontinent with Central Asia. It runs from Chittagong, Bangladesh west to Howrah, West Bengal in India, then across Northern India through Delhi, passing from Amritsar. From there the road continues towards Lahore and Peshawar in Pakistan finally terminating in Kabul, Afghanistan . Through this not only trade and transportation was facilitated but a huge impact was also created on Indian food culture. So Cafe G at Crown Plaza Today in Gurgaon is hosting a culinary trail to the various regions along the G.T. Road.
I was there to experience the majestic flavours of Undivided Punjab as they have a rotational menu each day covering all the regions. Chef Nilesh Dey, Executive Chef of the Hotel along with his talented team including Chef Pankaj Deshwal is heading this beautiful sumptous trail. Efforts can be seen in creating the look and feel of the ambience. The spread was quite interestingly handpicked. Like there was live counters of soup ie Kale chane ka shorba and Haleem. Both of them were nicely prepared. Amongst the starters Suleymani Murg ke kebab and Lawrence road ki tikki were really nice non veg ones to start with. In veg Malai Sofina and Subj aur akhrot ki seekh were very good too.
We devoured some extremely scrumptious mains as well which included Keema kasoori methi, Murg Cholley, Motia Cholley aur palak, Lawrence road ka aloo matar ka rassa and Wadiya danthal ki subzi. Simply loved everything served but surprisingly for a hard core non vegetarian like me the vegetarian dishes surpringly tasted better which rarely happens. Chicken tikka tawa pulao went very well with the mains.
The whole treat ended on a sweet note with desserts like Shahi tukda, Sohan Halwa, Karachi Halwa, Chukender ka halwa, Kala Jamun and Rasmslai . From an amazing ambiance to a variety of local flavours prepared to appease your tastebuds, the G.T. Culinary trail at Cafe G is your place to be.
