Highway on My Plate (HOMP)
Rocky and Mayur! Sigh. The most entertaining hosts and foodies ever. Though fresh episodes are no longer aired, Highway on my plate has, by far, been one of the best food shows on Indian television. Do watch the old episodes on Ndtv Good Times. We love the concept of travelling along the highways and roads throughout India to actually see what lies in store in terms of food. From Kashmir to Kerala, these adventurous foodies have managed to cover vast stretches and bring to us authentic delicacies. The goodies and certificates given by the hosts to remarkable restaurants and dhabas are still as much a privilege for the owners as they were.
Comparatively a new show on the newly launched Epic Channel, this show has an interesting concept. Food brings people together, but with time, the strongest of culinary traditions seem to be losing their value. The ever so popular chef Aditya Bal, is thus on a quest to unearth the popular culinary traditions and recipes through thirteen regions in India. During the course of his interaction with experts and locals, he manages to dig out the recipes that are no longer found in cookbooks and along with locals, recreates them with the same magic. We suggest you watch this show for the refreshing change from the typical recipes that you generally come across. Informative indeed.
Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares
Many of us are familiar with the name of Gordon Ramsay and the straightforward chef that he is. This show is a treat to watch, as he hits the road to look for restaurants in crisis. Ramsay is familiar with what it takes to overcome the stressful aspects of running a food business, and this is where he gets involved. He and his team redecorate the eatery, hoping to attract a large crowd. Everything from the interior to the menu ,is worked upon and what also follows is ultimate drama and entertainment. Thumbs up!
A popular show on FoodFood, we absolutely love the element of energy that Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi adds. Why would you like this show? Because here, you’re taught very basic North Indian recipes done just right. These are dishes that are made daily at our homes, and to be able to add a whole element of surprise and variation is just remarkable. You realize that there is just so much to learn!
These food shows undoubtedly add a whole new dimension to our understanding of food, and surprise us with the innumerable options that are in store. So go ahead, take your pick!
